Preheat the oven to 190°C, 375°F, gas mark 5. Grease a shallow ovenproof dish, about 20 x 20cm (8 x 8in) with butter. Mix all the ingredients together until well combined, adding a little milk or water at the end if the mixture seems on the dry side. Spread the mixture in an even layer in the greased dish and cover with greaseproof paper or a piece of foil. Cook in the hot oven for 20 minutes, then remove the paper and cook for another 5–10 minutes to allow the top to crisp and brown. Serve immediately.
